Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Price – Much-awaited Royal Enfield 650cc twins unveiled, The Royal Enfield Interceptor 2018 marks the return of one of Royal Enfield’s most loved classic motorcycles. Hailing from a time when all that mattered was that the California sun was out and the surf was up, the new Interceptor retains every bit of charm that made it a legend.
The 650 Twin is the rebirth of Royal Enfield’s legendary parallel twin cylinder engine. And it’s driving two Royal Enfield classic motorcycles – the Interceptor and the Continental GT. While classically styled and visually beautiful, the new engine is Royal Enfield’s most forward-looking yet, with a cleaner, elegant look, fewer components, less weight and easier maintenance.
Royal Enfield has finally taken the wraps off the much awaited Interceptor 650 Twin and the Continental GT 650 Twin at the ongoing EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy. This marks the first time in modern history that Royal Enfield has unveiled and will soon launch two bikes with a parallel-twin engine.
Perhaps the most awaited motorcycle unveiling at EICMA 2017, both the Interceptor and the Conti GT 650 look delightful and evoke the memories of the Interceptor Mark I. Both, the Interceptor and the Continental GT 650 share the chassis and the engine. The Interceptor is more of an old-school roadster style motorcycle while the Continental GT 650 is the full-blown café racer as it was always.
The Continental GT 535 and the Continental GT 650 are almost fully different to each other. Royal Enfield says that these two bikes are just 5 per cent similar to each other. The idea behind these bikes was to bring California school to the middleweight segment. The engine as we know is a 648 cc parallel-twin motor, with a 270 degree firing order and is air-cooled. The reason for choosing a 270 degree crank, Royal Enfield says, is because it is the smoothest setup with the right feel and character.
The engine gives out the good, pleasant vibrations during a power pull and there is a balancer shaft to reduce unpleasant vibrations overall. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox, with a slip-assist clutch. Royal Enfield built three 650 cc parallel engine prototypes with three different crank setups and finally chose the 270 degree firing order. The engine makes 47 bhp at 7,100 rpm and puts out a peak torque of 52 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
